SCOM 2019 UR2 Features unveiled at SCOMathon 2020
Aakash Basavaraj, Program Manager in the SCOM Team at Microsoft, showcased their latest plans at SCOMathon 2020.
So, what can we expect to see on SCOM’s roadmap in 2020?
There will be some standard bug fixes for SCOM 2016 to keep this version ticking over, but for all of you planning to upgrade, the great news is the next rollup of SCOM 2019 is where the SCOM Product Team are focussing their efforts.
Here’s the release plan:
SCOM 2019 Update Rollup 1 (UR1), launched earlier this year and already includes a load of new features:

But it is SCOM 2019 UR2 that we’re all waiting for! Aakash shared a few teasers of what new functions & features we can expect to see when this lands in early August:
1) Hotfix for Alert Management will address some of the issues discovered in UR1:
Users will be able to edit columns in closed Alerts irrespective of Health Sate.
Alerts can now be closed if the underlying Monitor’s Alerting is disabled.
Overridden Monitor Alerts can now be closed if Alerting is disabled, irrespective of Monitor Health State.
Users get appropriate Exception messages on the Web Console when monitor based alerts are closed with unhealthy monitors.
Automatic Alert Resolution to segregate rule-based alerts and monitor-based alerts.
Automatic Alert Resolution so monitor based alerts cannot be closed until a monitor is healthy
2) Improved Scheduled Maintenance Mode – If you have two maintenance mode schedules that both contain some of the same computers, maintenance mode will be started when the latter of the two schedules starts for these computers. When maintenance mode ends, the latest end time will be used for when these computers are taken out of maintenance mode again.
3) FavoriteReports in Web Console – these featured in previous versions of SCOM and due to popular demand, Microsoft will be bringing them back, alongside Folders, which will all be visible in the monitoring view of the web console.
4) CentOS8 Monitoring – the need for cross-platform compatibility is growing (e.g.Linus and Unix) so Microsoft have added support for CentOS8 and plan to work on adding more platforms to the list.
5) New and Improved Management Packs – Microsoft are working on upgrading their most popular MPs to ensure they continue to meet the needs of customers, with a focus on the shift to remote working now and in the future. The list of specific MPs that is to be worked for the UR2 timeframe on wasn't shared, but some strong hints where dropped in Aakash's slides:
On top of these things, Aakash dropped some hints for features further out than UR2 such as the auditing of administrative actions and PowerBI dashboards - be sure to look out for our blogs on these things shortly.
